What’s on in April in the Scottish Borders

As the weather warms up and Easter approaches, it’s time to head outside for some fun. This month we have the Melrose 7s, the Galashiels Walking Festival, cycling, running, shopping and some soothing music to keep you going. Come and join us in the beautiful Scottish Borders in April and experience our landscape, culture, history and some very good food.

Hot Cross Bun Fun Run, 8 April, Bowhill, Selkirk

Earn those Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns with a 5km or 1mile Easter themed fun run around Bowhill. Race starts 11am and costs £5 per person (includes medal).  Please fill in the form on the website. To find out more please call 01750 22204 or email info@bowhillhouse.co.uk.

Melrose Sevens 8 April 

The 126th playing of the Melrose Sevens. The town of Melrose takes on a carnival atmosphere with the day being considered a main social date in the sporting calendar.

Gordon Fergus-Thompson Piano, 27 April, Mellerstain House, Gordon

Hosted by Borders Music & Arts Society, the first concert of the season with internationally renowned pianist Garden Fergus-Thompson. Programme includes music from Schumann – Arabesque Op 18, Brahms – Fantasien Op116, Chopin – Mazurkas Op 17 & 50, Debussy – Estampes, Ravel – La Vaise. Kelso Antique Fleamarket Fair, 15-16 April, 09:30-16:00, Borders Union Show Ground

The largest Fair of this kind in the Scottish Borders. Held 6 times a year at this premier venue. Large selection of furniture, silver, jewellery, coins, medals, ceramics, books and general antique and second hand items to view and buy, from 50p to thousands of pounds. All indoors and well attended. Browse and have a coffee or meal in the cafe. A great day out – only £1.50 admission, children free.

Mountain Lassies Border Raid 21 April 

Cycling in the UKs endure epicentre, the Tweed Valley, for the lassies. An organised weekend of cycling. A mix of natural backcountry trails, trail-centre link ups, and technical ‘enduro’ descents. Not for the faint hearted. Graded level 2, £315.

Galashiels Weekend Walking Festival 28-30 April, TD1 1DQ

Seven walks over the weekend. All walks start and end at the Focus Centre, Livingstone Place, Galashiels, TD1 1DQ. All walks are graded moderate. Each walk costs £8.

Art at Ancrum 29 April-1 May

A long weekend of exhibitions and demonstrations by professional artists and makers in multiple venues throughout the village of Ancrum, where you can meet and purchase directly from the artisans. See and support the wealth of local creative talent.
